There’s nothing as beautiful as driving along a city street and spotting a beautiful flower on someone’s balcony or even a brief glimpse of a rooftop garden.
City life, if you let it, can really isolate you from all that is real and beautiful by surrounding you with concrete and steel, cutting off your connection with life.
That is why I absolutely love the idea of urban gardening. You can have the convenience of living in the city with the relaxing beauty of the country, at least a bit of it, right outside your door. The best of both worlds!
Many cities have victory gardens and other kinds of horticultural pursuits that connect not only people with the earth, but with each other as well by involving communities in projects that benefit everyone.

Gardenproject.org teaches gardening and tree care to prisoners, in San Francisco’s county jail, which provides organic food for the hungry and helps reduce crime.
