Twitter and Facebook are social media sites that have left their mark on the world, especially in people's lives.

I spend a lot of time doing research both on and offline, so getting a chance to just sit back, relax and enjoy some of the creative happenings across the social media “blogosphere” is a treat. The following links offer a glimpse into what is happening in the world around you!

1. Techcrunch – For an inside look at the thought processes and plans behind making a social media giant (Twitter) take a look at this post. Don’t know how Techcrunch got their hands on this, but it’s a good reminder…pen and paper! Just sayin’!

2. The Social Media Marketing Blog – Susan Boyle. Remember her? The singing sensation on Britian’s Got Talent became a Twitter sensation as people followed her thrilling story. This blog post talks about reasons why they believe she became such a “newsworthy” person.

3. Vatornews – Reveals how Twitter users were the first to break the news about Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger’s miraculous landing of Flight 1549 into the chilly waters of the Hudson River. Did you know that they beat the mainstream media by 15 minutes in releasing the info?

4. Mashable/Social Media – Ever heard the song by the Buggles called “Video Killed The Radio Star?” This blogger comments about the apparent correlation between the initial enthusiasm for the movie Bruno and then the plummet in sales after Twitter folks started bashing it. Coincidence?

5. The Washington Post – This very interesting post highlights the part that social media played in the Iranian elections. Its influence was so great that the State Department requested that Twitter delay their usual maintenance to prevent disruption of communication being received from users in Iran.

6. Converge Technologies - How a $15,000.00 horror movie grossed more than $7 million thanks to Twitter and Facebook. Wow!

7. Scobelizer - This interesting post talks about the changes that are taking place in search engine algorithms, which means that SEO may soon become a thing of the past.

Hope you enjoyed these great links as much as I did putting them together for you. Now get your butt back to work! ;-D

Ghosthunters is a popular Science Fiction channel series on cable.

Jason and Grant photo courtesy SyFy.com

I admit it. I’m a fan of Ghosthunters. No, I didn’t say Ghostbusters.. that’s a movie from my childhood. LOL!

I used to watch Ghosthunters faithfully every Wednesday night on the SciFi (or now it’s SyFy) without fail, but since our family is trying to cut back on expenses, we no longer have it.

I suppose if I really wanted to, I could hunt it down on youtube, syfy, or the ghosthunter’s sight, but I haven’t yet.

The show is centered around a group of people known as T.A.P.S., which stands for The Atlantic Paranormal Society, based out of Warwick, Rhode Island.

The founders are Jason and Grant. I have always loved bald men, so of course Jason is my favorite, although I like Grant’s personality too! The group of researchers attempt to be unbiased and professional in their hunting endeavors, and take a scientific approach to their investigations. They attempt to disprove everything, and if anything cannot be disproved, it is considered either paranormal or simply unexplained, depending on the evidence captured.

If you’ve never seen this show before, you’re missing out. Not everyone is into the spirit world, but that’s okay. If you don’t lean towards believing in the supernatural, it’s still entertaining.

Facebook is a powerful tool in the media these days. It has given a voice to the opinions of many groups of individuals.

I LOVE Facebook! Seriously! It has helped me reconnect with old friends and family I’ve lost touch with, as well as given me new ones to get to know. My husband even found an old friend from his days in the army.

Political pundits like Sarah Palin and Scott Brown have found a huge army of followers that encourage them and I believe reflect the opinions of millions of people.

Now the power of Facebook has possibly helped a much loved actress, Betty White, to be set as the host for Saturday Night Live. Over 425,000 members of a Facebook group known as Betty White to Host SNL (please?), have combined their individual voices into a collective wish to have the actress on SNL.

According to Michael Ausiello, with Entertainment Weekly, the group is “this close” to getting their wish.

Ms. White is 88 years old and going strong, however their is concern for her health in that the taping can be arduous. A “workaround” to getting her on SNL as host, has been created that would have her be part of a show called “Women of Comedy,” wherein she would co-host with other previous members of SNL such as Tina Fey, Molly Shannon and Amy Poehler.

Ausiello confirmed through an email that ” he is “100 percent certain” that “SNL” wants White as the centerpiece for the “Women of Comedy” episode.”

I loved Betty White in Golden Girls. I know she was in many other films, but that will always be one of my favorites. You could tell that she really enjoyed her co-workers and loved doing the part.

Yeah for Facebook!
